MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Loyola Wolf Pack senior golfer Sarah Meral earned another Southern States Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week title on Tuesday, marking the second time this season she's received that honor.
Meral and the Wolf Pack won another team title last week in Opelika, Alabama, and the Abita Springs, Louisiana, native won her second individual medalist honors in the process. Meral recorded a three-round total of 230 (+14) to lead Loyola to a team score of 937 (+73), winning the tournament by 36 strokes. For the Wolf Pack, it was the third straight team win of the season, and the program's 19th overall win in its 12 years of existence.
Meral started her week with a first-round 76 (+4) before a second-round 80 (+8) to sit tied for third and five strokes out of the lead. On Thursday, during the final round of the tournament, Meral was one of two golfers to break 80 on the tough Grand National Golf Club course, and her third-round 74 (+2) vaulted her to first place with a three-stroke advantage over the second-place finisher.
The Loyola women's golf team has two more tournaments left on the schedule before April's SSAC Championship. The team will travel to West Point, Mississippi, for the BMCU Spring Classic at Old Waverly Golf Club, March 23-24, then it'll finish the regular season March 30-31 at the Roadrunner Spring Invitational in Cohutta, Georgia, on the Nob North Golf Course.
