OPELIKA, Ala. – The 10th-ranked Loyola Wolf Pack women's golf team is back in action this week at Lawrence Tech's LTU Spring Break Invitational, and they lead the field of eight teams after the first of three rounds at Grand National Golf Club. The Wolf Pack carded a team total of 309 (+21) to sit ahead of Trevecca Nazarene by five strokes and No. 22 LTU by 19.
Catherine Singletary and Sarah Meral are both tied for first place on the individual leaderboard with rounds of 76 (+4). Trevecca Nazarene also has a golfer tied for first, and the trio has just a one-stroke lead over a golfer from Lawrence Tech. Evie Sisk is also in the Top 5 and two strokes out of first.
Singletary started her day on the 10th tee and made bogey on her first two holes. She righted the ship with a birdie on the 14th before finishing with a bogey on the 17th to sit 2-over after nine holes. She started the second nine with a birdie and four straight pars, but she found trouble on hole No. 6 to get to her 4-over score.
Meral, like her teammate, began her round with a bogey on the 10th tee before two birdies and six pars finished her first nine holes at 1-under. The second nine was rocky for the senior, but her round was still good enough to be tied for first with Singletary.
Sisk had a couple of birdies on her card, too, to help get the junior to her 6-over, 78 score. Johanna Haver shot a first-round 79 (+9) to join her three teammates in the Top 10, and Aaliyah Achary is in 13th out of 44 golfers after shooting an 82 (+10)
