No. 9 Baseball loses series finale at ABAC Saturday

The Wolf Pack baseball team returns to Segnette Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

TIFTON, Ga. – The No. 9-ranked Loyola University New Orleans baseball team lost its rubber match at (RV) Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Saturday, 10-6. The Wolf Pack will return to New Orleans with a 16-8 overall record and a 3-3 mark in Southern States Athletic Conference action, hosting non-conference foe Southern University at New Orleans on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Saturday's series finale featured back-and-forth play in the first few innings, as the Wolf Pack scored in the second, third, fourth, and ninth innings, while ABAC pushed runs across in the second, third, and fifth through eighth innings.

Loyola scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the second, thanks to a two-RBI double from Reed Duthu. He scored Jovan Swasey and Tanner Powell, who walked and singled earlier in the frame, respectively. After the Stallions tied it in the bottom half of the inning, Loyola added two more runs in the top of the third, 4-2. Nathan McDonald picked up the two-RBI single that time, scoring Myles Liggans and Jed Cambre, who also walked and singled earlier in the inning. Again, though, ABAC plated two more runs in the bottom half to tie the game again, 4-4.

In the top of the fourth, Duthu got things started with a walk and a stolen base, and he eventually scored on a Cambre single, 5-4. That was the last run the Wolf Pack scored until the ninth inning. However, the Stallions would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, 5-5, then scored two more in the sixth, 7-5, one in the seventh, 8-5, and two more in the eighth, 10-5.

Loyola loaded the bases in the top of the ninth, and McDonald got one run across with an RBI single, 10-6. With the tying run at the plate, ABAC would get a game-ending strikeout to claim the series.
