Esports has perfect week

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola University New Orleans esports program continues to dominate in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, staying undefeated in both Sun Conference and NACE action. 
 

On Wednesday, Loyola swept Keiser University, 2-0, to improve to 5-0 for the spring season. In NACE action on Tuesday and Thursday, Loyola defeated Full Sail and East Tennessee State University to make its record 4-0. The win over Keiser was Loyola's 13th straight Sun Conference win, dating back to two seasons ago. Loyola still hasn't even dropped a crew battle since March 19, 2024.
 

In the first crew battle on Tuesday against Full Sail, Malachi Lee, as Terry, helped put the Pack in the lead by defeating the first two competitors while only losing one stock. After he was defeated, Lily Neeley, as Lucina, took out the next Full Sail character, then Anthony Nodolski, as Olimar, finished things off to give Loyola a 1-0 lead. Nodolski led things off in the second crew battle and defeated Full Sail's Snake, 3-2, before losing his final stock in the next matchup. After Full Sail put up a good effort to even the match, Lee finished off Full Sail's final five stocks to end the match in a sweep. 
 

In Sun Conference action on Wednesday, Lucian Payne, as Wolf, helped tie the match early, but it came down to Loyola's final player, Lee. Playing as Terry, Lee had to take Keiser's final seven stocks without losing his three to take a 1-0 lead in the match, and he took out the Zelda, Cloud, and Ness characters to keep Loyola's crew battle streak alive. Leyton Gould, as Sonic, had a good start in the second crew battle, then Neeley kept Loyola in front by taking four stocks from Kesier. Once again, Lee was the anchor and defeated Keiser's Zelda character to complete the sweep. 
 

After ETSU won the first matchup, Lee stepped in and quickly put Loyola back in the lead by taking four stocks. Samuel Spiegel, as Roy, was Loyola's anchor, and he had to defeat ETSU's Pac-Man and Joker to give Loyola the first crew battle. The second crew battle was nearly the same as the first, as ETSU won the first fight, but Lee took the next five stocks, then a combination of Payne and Spiegel finished off the final five stocks to sweep the match. 
 

Loyola is scheduled to play two more matches next week, as all games will be streamed on the Loyola esports' Twitch page.
