Beach volleyball sweeps doubleheader to start season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 2026 beach volleyball season began on Friday for the Loyola Wolf Pack at Huntingdon College's Huntingdon Beach Bash. Loyola started the season on a high note, sweeping a doubleheader against two NCAA Division-III teams. 

The Wolf Pack started the weekend with an early morning matchup with the host school, Huntingdon, which went 1-1 on Thursday to start the tournament. Loyola won the first match 3-1, followed by a 3-2 win against Stevenson University. 

The all-time winningest pair at Loyola, Kala Emanuelli and Madeline Corrall, had the largest margin of victory in their match at flight 1: 21-15, 21-10. The court 2 duo of Samantha Guillotte and Kiarelis Martinez nearly had an identical score, winning 21-15, 21-11. A much closer match on court 5 with Isabella Rodrigue and Zoe Barnes saw the Pack win 21-19, 21-18 to clinch the team win, 3-1.

The next match against Stevenson was much closer, with two of the courts going to deciding third sets, but the Pack pulled out the 3-2 win. The court 2 team of Guillotte and Martinez picked up their second straight-sets win of the day, 21-13, 21-14. Isis Harink and Juliet Petruzelli earned their first win as a pair, 21-16, 21-15 at the No. 4 position. 

Stevenson claimed two victories with razor-thin margins on courts 1 and 3, winning the first two sets in both by two points, but a big court 5 win from Barnes and Rodrigue helped to seal the win. They lost the first set 22-20 but came back to win the net two 21-14, 16-14. 

Loyola will continue the Huntingdon Beach Bash on Saturday, with matches against Berry College at 9:30 a.m. and LaGrange College at 2 p.m. The Wolf Pack defeated Berry College early last season and are 2-0 historically against LaGrange.
