Wolf Pack SSBU team wins two more this week

NEW ORLEANS – The Loyola Wolf Pack esports program earned two wins in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this week, competing both in the Sun Conference and NACE. Loyola took down New College of Florida, 2-0, in conference play on Wednesday, then beat Atlantic University, 2-1, in NACE action. 
 

The win over New College of Florida was Loyola's 12th straight Sun Conference win, dating back to two seasons ago. Loyola still hasn't even dropped a crew battle since March 19, 2024.
 

A crew battle consists of four players from each team with three stocks apiece. Each team plays one player at a time until all three stocks are lost. The stocks lost carry over to each head-to-head matchup until all four players from one team lose their three stocks. The first team to two crew battle wins claims the match.
 

Leyton Gould (Sonic) took the first three stocks from his counterpart, but the Wolf Pack ran into some problems with New College's Bayonetta fighter. Braden Garfield (Cloud) finished off Bayonetta, but Malachi Lee was Loyola's final player with two still from NCF. Lee took the final six stocks to help Loyola take a 1-0 lead in the match, including winning the final battle 3-0, playing as Terry. 
 

The second crew battle came down to Lee as well. After Lily Neeley eliminated the first NCF competitor, Lee had to take the final eight stocks without losing his three to allow Loyola to sweep the match. He did just that, taking the last two stocks from the Palutena fighter and all three from New College of Florida's Bayonetta character before losing a single stock. In the final fight, Lee eliminated Ridley, 3-1, to complete the sweep.
