Johnson named SSAC Offensive Player of the Week Monday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Loyola New Orleans men's basketball junior Kameron Johnson had a career night last week in a four-overtime win over Xavier. His efforts not only led the Wolf Pack to a win over their cross-town rival, but Johnson was also named the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. 
 

Johnson led Loyola with a career-high 33 points, 12 assists, eight rebounds and five steals. The junior played in 59 of the game's 60 minutes, and 20 of those minutes came during the four overtimes. After being held to just two points in the first half, his 15 second-half points were key in Loyola's comeback to force an extra period. In fact, two of those points were free throws in the final 2 seconds of regulation to tie the game, 69-69. 
 

The New Orleans native was held scoreless in the first overtime, but scored five quick points in the final minutes of the second overtime to tie the game, 81-81, and send the game to a third overtime. He had eight points in the third overtime to help keep pace with XULA, then added three more in the fourth overtime to allow the Wolf Pack pull away for the win.  
 

Through three games, Johnson leads the Wolf Pack in scoring with an 18.3 points-per-game average, and he has a team-high 7.3 assists-per-game average while adding 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 steals. 
 

Loyola (2-1) is set to travel to Southern University at New Orleans Monday night for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup.
